Health Care

Together we can keep your pet healthy.

We practice preventative medicine which means that we establish individualized health care protocols based on your pet’s life style.  A yearly health exam is a very cost effective way to monitor your pet’s health and to catch any diseases early.  Nearly 80 percent of health issues can be detected on physical exam and early treatment will help keep your pet healthy and happy.

Surgery

We have a full service surgery facility where we perform Spays, Neuters,Wound repair Gastrointestinal, Orthopaedic, Lump and Cancer removals. Our Surgery features a hydraulic surgery table with table warmer and isoflurane gas anesthesia (a very safe anesthetic).  All pets are monitored by a surgical assistant using a pulse and oxygen meter to ensure your pet is safely under anesthetic. Iv Fluids and pain meds are always provided.

Doc has always enjoyed performing surgeries because “making a pet’s life better by spaying or neutering or saving a pet in an emergency surgical procedure is one of the best parts of being a veterinarian”.  Doc has performed thousands of successful surgeries and feels comfortable performing a wide range of soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries.

We are happy when we know our patients are comfortable and receiving excellent surgical care.

Dentistry

Clean healthy teeth are very important to your pet’s health (never mind preventing bad breath).  Chipped and broken teeth can sometimes cause significant issues and just like in people keeping your pet’s mouth healthy as they age is very important in maintaining your pet’s health.  We have a full dentistry facility where we can clean your pet’s teeth, take dental X-rays, examine your pet’s overall oral health and perform extractions if necessary.

X rays

We have an excellent X ray machine that is used to diagnose broken bones, arthritis, hip dysplasia, foreign bodies (things your pet eats that they are not suppose to) and other abnormalities.  An x ray is also a great way to look at your pet’s lungs, liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract and bladder.

Hospitalization

We have a treatment and hospitalization area where your pet can recover in a quiet setting.  We do not board pets so we can focus on getting your pet healthy.  All hospitalized pets are supervised and provided warm comfortable bedding.  Overnight care is provided.

Ultrasound

We have a Veterinary Internal Medicine Board Certified Specialist that comes to our practice to perform our ultrasound procedures.  Ultrasounds can be very valuable in determining heart problems or detecting cancer in the liver, kidneys, spleen or in the case of the bladder it is useful for detecting bladder stones, cancers or abnormalities.

Laboratory

We have some in house lab machines that allow us to do basic blood and urine and fecal diagnostic tests.  We also send out samples to Idexx Laboratories which is a certified lab that provides us with timely reliable results for biopsies and other blood tests.  We are very fortunate to have such speedy service and in many cases get our results back faster than our human counterparts.  Idexx also has board certified specialists which we can consult in complex cases.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are based on your pet’s exposure risk.

Protocols are established based on your pet’s requirements.  Do they travel, attend training school, play times or off leash?  All these factors determine the necessary vaccination protocols to keep your pet healthy.

Vaccinations are used to maintain your pet’s optimal health as well as to prevent diseases that can be transmitted to people and affect the health of your family.

In House Pharmacy

We keep a fully stocked pharmacy to immediately treat and dispense all your pet’s needs.

House Calls and Emergency Services

If you are an established client we provide house calls and emergency services until 9 pm daily.  Having worked in an emergency clinic Doc knows how valuable these two services are for our clients.  Most emergencies happened on weekends and just after most hospitals close.  We are happy to help if you can reach us during regular hours or before 9 pm.  After 9 pm – 8 am  we refer our emergencies to the local emergency hospitals. Our clients truly benefit from access to this services but we regret we do not extend this services to non clients.

Puppy and Kitten Consults

We provide consultation services for those wishing advise on new pet selection for their family.  Providing information on which breeds to choose and which breed specific health issues should be considered can be very beneficial before choosing your new pet.

Health exams shortly after you bring your new pet home can determine if there are any concerns and make sure your new bundle of joy is free of any parasites or health issues that can put your family’s health at risk.  Nothing is better than having a healthy new addition to the family!

Prescription Diets and Health Care Products

In todays global economy it is important to be cautious in picking pet food, treats and Toys.  There have been several salmonella and other contaminants outbreaks from pet chews and food coming from questionable sources.  As such we carry a very select number of products that we are confident will help maintain your pet’s health.

All products we carry have scientific research into their use and we know what results can be achieved when feeding or using these products on your pet.  We also select products based on their good reputation over years of use so that we can all feel comfortable providing them to our pets.  Take a look at “Doc’s Picks” a feature wall of products that provide everything your pet needs.
