Rabies is a real threat in our Area
There continues to be cases of Rabies in our area. Bats, foxes and skunks are the most common but any mammal can get rabies. The virus is carried in saliva and when a person or animal is exposed via a bite wound or saliva on broken skin the virus tracks up to the brain and causes neurological issues that eventually kills the host. If a person is exposed please call your family physician or public health immediately for emergency post exposure treatment. If an animal is bitten by a suspect animal please call us to report and we will provide post exposure treatment and will report the issue to the appropriate authorities. Please make sure your pet is up to date on their Rabies vaccine as well as the other vaccines. The Rabies vaccine is a mandatory vaccine in Ontario.
Test your pet for Heartworm and Lymes Disease
A small amount of blood is all we need to test your pet. Once we have a negative result you can start the preventative medications. It is important to start the medication on time and to continue for the entire at risk season. In Ontario with the changes in weather it is important to start and to continue meds when the temps are above 4 degrees Celsius.
Get out and enjoy the weather
It is the perfect time to get out and walk your best friend. There are lots of nice hiking trails in our region. Your both sure to enjoy hiking on new trails and perhaps meeting up with some other four legged friends
